Tealights are like other candles, but they are short and not very wide. The burning fuse causes the wax to melt and make a small puddle. What is really wax burning is being up the wick. As the wax burns, the wick becomes smaller and smaller until the wax is gone and the wick is turned off. Some tealights have a metal support small for the wick in the bottom which is after all the wax has burned.
